GED Preparation and Testing

General Education Development (GED)

Free instruction and testing are provided for students who wish to earn a high school equivalency diploma (GED) from the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development. Individual, group and computerized instruction are available. Tutoring for the GED is provided through the KPC Literacy Program, which is an accredited affiliate of Proliteracy Worldwide. Individual, group and some computerized instruction are available.

GED preparation and testing is only available at KRC in Soldotna and KBC in Homer, not at the Seward and Anchorage KPC extension sites.

What is a GED?

The GED is a diploma by examination issued by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. It's a 4-subject test (language arts, social studies, science and math), typically not taken all at once.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Students under 18 must submit a signed parent or guardian permission form and an official school withdrawal form before going through the GED Orientation.

English as a Second Language

KPC Learning Centers provide ESL instruction for non-native speakers of English who have a serious desire to improve their language skills. Students learn English for daily communication and work. Reading skills are not a requirement for these classes. These courses are free and participants can register anytime. ESL instruction is not available at Anchorage and Seward extension sites.

The Learning Center is located in Brockel Building room 191. Call the Learning Center at 262-0327 to find out the current hours of operation.
