MISSION and SERVICES
The mission of Student Services is to promote the success of students at KPC. Services include advising and counseling, career and community engagement center, and financial aid services , and information regarding Student Employment opportunities on campus . Student Services is committed to informing students and helping them feel comfortable using the services and programs available to them.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO SPEAK WITH A COUNSELOR?

Bettina Kipp (262-0334 or email: ifbrk@uaa.alaska.edu) is the academic and personal counselor in Student Services. Krista Timlin (262-0337 or email: inklt@uaa.alaska.edu) is the Career and Community Engagement programs manager. Student Services tries to accommodate as many walk-ins as possible, but appointments are recommended and can made by calling 262-0330.

WHAT KIND OF HELP CAN I EXPECT?

  • Academic advising, information and support.
  • Personal, short-term counseling services.
  • Help with financial aid ineligibility appeals.
  • Advising for underage/JUMPSTART students.
  • Referrals to agencies that can provide help for issues beyond the capacity of Student Services, including housing, childcare, food, personal safety, domestic violence, substance abuse, and many others.
  • Mediation for student concerns, including academic and/or administrative sanctions; problems with faculty, staff, or other students.
  • On-Campus crisis intervention.
  • Emergency Aid, including First aid supplies and administration of first aid.
  • Information on campus safety.
  • Peer Advising: students helping students.
  • Admissions information.
  • Forms, catalogs, schedules.
  • Help getting unofficial transcripts on-campus, or ordering official transcripts from UAA.
  • Degree checks for students applying for graduation.
  • New Student Orientations.
  • Registration information and help using the UAOnline.
  • Career counseling: assessments, personalized help with resume preparation and interviewing skills, and student internships opportunities.
  • General information about KPC programs/services.

WHAT IF I NEED HELP IN THE EVENING?
After 5 p.m., Dave Atcheson, Evening Coordinator, staffs the Student Services counter. The Evening Coordinator will provide forms, answer general questions, make appointments for students for counseling and career consults, take messages for the financial aid staff, and provide general support for the students and faculty on campus. Dave can be reached by calling 262-0330 or 398-4216 or via email.

WHAT ABOUT CAMPUS SAFETY?
KPC has a great safety record, but it is a public facility. Students, faculty and staff are expected to respond promptly to the fire alarm, and evacuate the building. Students are cautioned to be aware of their physical safety and keep track of their belongings while on campus or in the parking areas. Any specific concerns about safety should be directed to the counselor in Student Services. The Evening Coordinator will provide an escort for students to their car upon request.

WHAT ABOUT FINANCIAL AID?
