www.rileyguide.com: The Riley Guide is a directory of employment and career information sources and services on the Internet. It provides instruction for jobseekers and recruiters on how to use the Internet to their best advantage.

www.acinet.org: America’s Career Info Net is a component of CareerOneStop, which is put together by the U.S. Dept of Labor, and also includes America’s Job Bank. Find tons of career resources, including information about both Alaskan and national job market trends, training, occupations, local, statewide and national employers and links to other great sites and resources.

This site can provide you with “occupational profiles” that can help you to:

  • Learn about jobs that fit with your interests, skills, and experience.
  • Research qualifications and associated tasks for potential careers.
  • Write a powerful résumé using the common lanuage of O*NET’s information on skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Know what it takes to be successful in your field(s) of interest.

www.akcis.org: The Alaska Career Information System (AKCIS) website provides career exploration and online assessments, as well as access to information on occupations, technical schools, colleges and universities, financial aid and scholarships in Alaska and across the U.S. Contact KPC Career Services to get a username and password to fully access this resource.

online.onetcenter.org: This is the website for the Occupational Information Network. This site provides access to the O*NET database of occupational information. The O*NET database includes information on skills, abilities, knowledge, work activities, and interests associated with occupations. Information is available for over 950 occupations. O*NET is the occupational categorization and database system that is used by the Department of Labor—both in Alaska and nationally—and is also used by AKCIS, educational institutions and employers to classify occupations/jobs. This is the site that provides the extensive “occupational profile” information to AciNet. You can find even more detail about what is required of occupations on this site.

www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm: This is The Occupational Outlook Handbook which is hosted by the bureau of Labor Statistics website. The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. Revised every two years, the Handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations.

www.jobhuntersbible.com: The website of Richard Nelson Bolles--author of the acclaimed What Color is Your Parachute?--has lots of career and job search/strategy advice and resources offered by a veteran career counselor extraordinaire. This site has high quality links, especially if you want access to national job listings and resource providers.
