FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
Get a “Jump” on the rest of the crowd. Start your college education while still in high school. Kenai Peninsula College – University of Alaska Anchorage has a way to help you get going NOW!
JumpStart allows you to take up to six (6) college credits each semester of your senior year. That’s a possible 12 semester credits on you college transcript before you are out of high school. These credits can start you toward a college degree, give you a new skill or help you make decisions for life after high school. The best part, it’s CHEAP (oops, we mean INEXPENSIVE)!!! You pay just $45 per credit, plus textbooks, fees and transportation costs.
This terrific deal is brought to you by KPC/UAA and the Kenai Peninsula Borough. We want YOU to have access to classes not offered at your high school AND we want you to get to know us. Once you’ve been to KPC, we think you’ll be back. We offer great instructors, a personal environment, and transferable university course credits.
KPC makes it easy to get a JumpStart on college. So how do you get this wonderful deal?
- Be a senior in high school. Students should obtain the JUMPSTART forms from their high school counselor or the RBES Coordinator (office located at the Seward High School or call 224-2285 or email: Jackie Marshall).
- Fill out your part of this form.
- Take the form to your high school counselor and a parent for
signatures. Students participating in home-school programs must provide documentation
verifying 12th grade level status. Signature of home-school coordinator and parent is
required.
- Take the ACCUPLACER placement test. If you have taken the SAT or ACT, you may use those scores.
- Bring the JumpStart – High School Waiver form to the RBES coordinator’s
office with the desired classes indicated with all required signatures and a copy of ACCUPLACER,
ACT or SAT scores at the designated registration time. Students enrolled for college credit are
responsible for attendance and add/drop procedures.
9 th, 10 th, & 11 th GRADE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Students in the 11th grade and below who wish to take classes at KPC must
obtain the High School Student Waiver Application from the RBES Coordinator.
The form needs to be filled out completely including all required signatures.
The instructor of the course and the college director has the final approval
for admitting a student. Full tuition, fees, and textbooks are the responsibility
of the student. Registration is available during general registration. See
course schedule for registration dates.
High school students are restricted to a maximum of seven credits per semester, and course selection is restricted to 100-299 level courses only.
