Blackboard Support

Various distance delivery courses, satellite, online, audio conference, and live interactive video are supported at KRC, KBC and RBES. Using distance delivery instruction, a student can take courses that are not taught at the local campus. Most distance delivery courses are applicable to a degree program if they are provided through an accredited institution. An academic advisor should be consulted.

The University of Alaska Distance Education Gateway, online at: www.alaska.edu/distance, provides access to current course information for distance delivered classes available all over the University of Alaska system. Details for courses returned from a search can be accessed by clicking a course title. Contact information is also available for each of the University of Alaska campuses around the state to assist in registering for courses.

The University of Alaska is committed to making education available to the distributed population of the state by extending its reach to students through its diverse offering of distance delivered courses supported by the various UA campuses around the state.

Ordering Books for Distance Courses

Students taking KPC distance courses need to order their books online through MBS Direct (http://www.mbsdirect.net) or via phone (1-800-325-3252). The web site also gives information about refunds, online buyback, eBooks that may be available and other course materials they can access. Students need to plan ahead when ordering their books and take into consideration shipping times:

MBS Direct ships via UPS because it is trackable; they will use the US Postal Service (USPS) if the student wants, but it is untraceable and can take longer.

  • USPS Priority Mail typically takes 3-7 business days and delivery time is not guaranteed.
  • UPS Ground takes about 2-7 business days, which costs about $10.
  • UPS 2-day shipping costs about $15.

MBS ships within 24 hours, Monday-Friday

Distance education information, such as what equipment you need and what steps you need to take, can be found in the UAA Distance Education Student Guide.

Students interested in distance education can consult with KPC advisor Scott Kraxberger: 262-0354 or Diane Taylor in the Learning Center at 262-0328.

If you are interested in taking distance courses from outside of UAA (but within the UA system, such as from UA Fairbanks), check out the UA Distance Education Handbook.
