G.L. Freeburg Art Gallery

KRC, 262-0361

The G.L. Freeburg Art Gallery is the centerpiece of the visual arts at KRC. It is a meeting place of the visual artist and the college community. The gallery, created by former art faculty Gary L. Freeburg, has been in existence since 1985 and has an established reputation in Alaska for being a quality exhibition space. The gallery was officially dedicated in the name of former KPC art professor and professional photographer Gary Freeburg in 2003. The gallery presents original works of art by local and regional artists in a wide range of mediums and expressions. Exhibitions in the gallery contribute to a quality educational experience at KRC through gallery sponsored artist lectures, events and independent viewer participation.

At the end of each academic year, KRC displays students’ best art work in the G.L. Freeburg Art Gallery in the Student Art Show. This Student Exhibition ends with a closing reception including other art activities in the “Celebration of the Arts” event. KRC’s Art Students’ League holds events during the year, often including the “Arts Extravaganza”, a student art auction.  KRC provides gallery spaces throughout the Campus for display of student art.  KBC students exhibit their art throughout the year in the Commons and local galleries. Shows feature an opening reception for the artists and are available for public viewing.
