Whales are us @ KBC!
By: KPC Advancement
The three whale species represented are an immature, transient orca, a Cook Inlet beluga (now listed as endangered) and a rare, Stejneger's beaked whale. The articulation projects were led by Lee Post, adjunct instructor, and the work was largely done by students. Most of the students were a part of KBC's Semester by the Bay program. All the whale carcasses were recovered from beaches in the Cook Inlet region. Dr. Debbie Tobin, coordinator of the SBB program, is a marine mammal expert and part of the Alaska Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Assess this story produced by KBBI/APRN for more information about the most recent whale skeleton installation. Watch a short video of the orca skeleton being installed here.
