Averill Thayer in his canoe at the Swan Lake canoe system, Kenai Peninsula 1966

Averill Thayer was the longtime manager of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He is seen here in a canoe enjoying the Swan Lake canoe system. This system was used by 500 people in 1965. This system connects 29 lakes providing good fishing and camping.
