Kenai Soldotna Ak. State Champion sled dog races

Alaska state champion sleddog races were held on a 15.8 mile course. It generally paralleled the Kenai Spur Hwy. Thus it was a good spectator event. It took place Saturday, beginning in Kenai, then Sunday between Soldotna and Kenai. Dr. Roland Lombard, age 50, from Wayland, Ma. Claimed his first victory in 1962. His total time was 1 hour 57 minutes. The purse was $2,000.00, of which he received $1,000.00. Some years later the race course began and set out from Soldotna airport.
