Mar 21, 6:30 PM
This installment of the Showcase will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 21 in the McLane Commons at KPC's Kenai River Campus.
The presenter, David Thomas, a local engineer, is a backpacker who has been experimenting with light-weight backpacking gear and techniques for the last 35 years. In 1985, he thought a 29-pound pack, including food for 9 days in the Sierra, was light. New equipment and concepts in the last 15 years allow ultralight hikers to have "base weights" (no food, no fuel) under 10 pounds and "super ultralight" backpackers to be under 5 pounds. Come learn skills and see examples of gear that can greatly reduce the weight of your backpack, day pack, hunting pack, or pilot's survival gear.
