Applying for financial aid begins with completing the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA ). Students must be admitted to a degree or certificate program at the university in order to qualify for Federal and State programs. It is recommended to complete the FAFSA online during early registration: February 1st - February 15th. Financial aid is available for new and returning students. Many scholarships and financial aid options do not require full-time student status, but nearly all require the student to be enrolled in a degree or certificate program. With over 400 programs to choose from, and 16 campuses Statewide, the University of Alaska can truly help students get the financial support to go to college and get in the program that meets their needs. The Financial Aid office helps students apply for State and Federal aid programs. Each student’s situation is carefully assessed, taking into consideration family size, assets, income, debts, and estimated costs of attending college. Types and amounts of financial aid vary according to State and Federal guidelines, student needs, and availability of funds. Although many programs have specific deadlines, students are encouraged to check with a KPC Financial Aid office throughout the year.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy - Must READ Section

The University of Alaska system has a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy that we believe is consistent with the institutional mission and academic policies of the University. Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in order to retain Financial Aid eligibility, whether presently receiving financial aid or planning for a future semester. If a student presently receiving financial aid fails to complete Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) they may have their financial aid placed on "ineligible" status until an appeal and degree plan have been submitted and approved, or reinstatement conditions are met, according to the UA SAP policy. Students who are not presently on financial aid but have failed to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress may be ineligible until they have submitted an appeal and it has been approved, or they reinstate themselves according to the SAP policy.
